San Francisco airport

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is one of the busiest airports in the world. Its ongoing expansion program will make SFO not only the largest domestic airport but one of the most user friendly. The major carriers there include: Air Canada, American Airlines, British Airways, Delta Airlines, Northwest/KLM Airlines, Qantas Airways, United Airlines, USAirways and Virgin Atlantic.

SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT FACILITIES

Visitors arriving at San Francisco International Airport will find customs, baggage claim, sightseeing information, car rental booths and ground transportation into the city on the lower level. The top level has services for those departing from San Francisco, including baggage handlers, ticket and insurance counters, restaurants, bars, shops and security checkpoints.

All car rental and parking shuttles, public buses, and door-to-door shuttle minibus services deliver (and pick-up) their passengers at this level.

The airport’s 24-hour shuttle, which operates between terminals and long-term parking, picks up on the center island near the ticket counters every 5 to 20 minutes.

Bank of America’s foreign exchange office in the international terminal is open from 7am to 11pm daily. Global Communications Center has special telephone and teleconferencing equipment, a conference room and fax machine for travelers’ use. Each terminal has snack bars, restaurants and cocktail lounges, banks and ATMs, newsstands, and other shops. Other services provided include baby changing facilities, nurseries, mailboxes and postage stamp vending machines. There are also pay TVs, showers and a clinic for those with medical problems. Wheelchairs, TDD terminals for the hearing-impaired and an airport shuttle service for the disabled are readily available. You can also use the white courtesy phones that allow you to contact all airport services and facilities free of charge.

OTHER AIRPORTS SERVING THE CITY

While most flights arrive at San Francisco International (SFO), Oakland International and San Jose International airports are less congested.

Both offer good ground transportation into San Francisco by door-to-door bus shuttle and limousine. BART serves SFO and Oakland International in conjunction with a shuttle, and a Sam Trans/CalTrain connection serves San Jose.
